Storm Chaser Mike Olbinski hat auch den Sommer 2017 auf der Jagd nach enormen Wolken und vielen Blitzen verbracht. Und es hat wieder gelohnt.
Early on this summer when I found myself down by Santa Rosa, AZ watching a gorgeous hail core fall on the stunning desert landscape, and then later that day staring at a haboob with a stacked shelf cloud above it near the border of Mexico, I had a feeling it would be a unique monsoon. It’s funny how every year is different. That’s the beauty of chasing the summer storm season out here in the desert southwest. You never know what’s going to happen or what you might see.
A tough early June this year storm-wise, but it didn't stop us from chasing everything we could and on June 5th we ended up in eastern Wyoming on this beastly storm south of Newcastle. The shelf cloud was beautiful and luckily for us, the lightning was fairly active. Such stunning colors and textures in the sky…was a fantastic way to finish the day! Making it better was having Andy Hoeland and my tour group with me, plus leap-frogging my buddies @markokorosecnet , Brad and Ákos on this storm!
This bolt from September 13th was the first one I've ever captured at night hitting inside the Grand Canyon. It was incredible to witness, especially alongside my buddy @ticket2riiide. It was pretty dang dark, so this exposure is bumped up significantly and I wish it was a tad less noisy, but oh well! More opportunities will come because now all I want to do is live up there in the summers haha. There is something magical about that place, especially when you finally achieve your goal.
