Anthony Valadez ist DJ, Radio-Moderator und Fotograf aus Los Angeles und hat kürzlich den "Nineteen Ninety Forever" Mix aus dem Ärmel geschüttelt. Ansich bin ich nicht der große Fan von diesartigen Throwback Mixes, muss ich gestehen. Dieser 90s Mix scheint aber die Ausnahme zu sein, ich ertappe mich beim unwillkürlichen Mitnicken. Die Tracklist gibt's nach dem Klick. Every other Summer my Grandfather would take me over to the East Coast to visit family. I would record over my cousin's Cure tapes with just about everything I heard on NY radio. I would tape Bobbito and Stretch Armstrong shows and I remember hearing them drop Apache. This song blew my mind. I loved that song and constantly played it on the ride back home to LA. Taking these dubbed cassettes meant the world to me. It was as if I was bringing a piece of one coast with me to another. This is a homage to an era where beats and rhymes complimented one another. This was an era where emcee's actually rhymed and beats were crafted with care and love. I hope you appreciate this mix as much as I enjoyed creating it on two turntables. -av
