The Trill Is Gone – B.B. King & UGK – Ein neues Album von Amerigo Gazaway (+Download)
Remixer, Mashup-Profi und Edit-König Amerigo Gazaway meldet sich mit seinem neuesten Projekt "The Trill Is Gone" zurück. Nach Mos Def vs. Marvin Gaye und De La Soul vs. Fela Kuti (übrigens noch immer mein Favorit seiner Arbeiten) kombiniert er nun die Acapellas von Bun B und Pimp C aka UGK mit den Samples des King of Blues B.B. King. The Trill Is Gone macht meinen Abend rund. Wieder mal ein sehr gelungenes Projekt.

Wer Initiator dieser großartigen Mixtape-Serie, habe ich bisher nicht in Erfahrung bringen können. Weßhalb ich die ersten beiden Episoden von DJ Scratch und J.Period verpasst habe und erst zu Vol.3 von Amerigo Gazaway davon erfahre, erschließt sich mir ebenfalls nicht. Nun ja, besser spät als nie. The Big Payback nennt sich die Serie und die eben genannten großartigen DJs / Producer haben bereits dazu beigesteuert. Die ersten beiden haben klassische Mixtapes gebastelt, während Herr Gazaway Mash-Ups aus dem Katalog von James Brown und mehr oder minder aktuellen Rappern kombiniert. Nicht nur für Funk-Liebhaber sind diese Mixtapes eine absolute Reinhör- und Download-Empfehlung. -> This time around, Amerigo takes on James Brown in The Big Payback Vol lll. Mister Amerigo Gazaway meldet sich mit der zweiten Single seines "Yasiin Gaye" Projekts und auch dieses Mal geht die Rechnung auf. Der "Love Song" der Bush Babees mit Mos Def in der Hook und Marvin Gayes "Anna's Song" gehen gut zusammen. Besser kann man den Tag kaum starten. Yasiin Bey und macht Yasiin Gaye. Eine gelungene Kombi zweier Klassiker wie ich finde.
