Q-Tip hat's gepostet, es wird ein 6. und finales A Tribe Called Quest Album geben. Release Date ist der 11. November. Ich hab's gelesen und neben heftig Gänsehaut auch eine kleine Träne vergossen, muss ich zugeben. Ich hoffe sehr, das Ding wird gut.

A Tribe Called Quest – 25 Jahre „People’s Instinctive Travels & the Paths of Rhythm“ (Mixtape)
Am 17. April 1990 veröffentlichen A Tribe Called Quest ihr Debüt-Album "People’s Instinctive Travels & the Paths of Rhythm", das zum Instant-Classic mutierte und der Band unter anderem 5 Mics in der Source einbrachte. Die Wertung hatte damals noch ziemliches Gewicht und wurde selten vergeben. 25 Jahre danach hat Chris Read für Waxpoetics einen Tribute Mix gebastelt, der sich an einigen Sample-Quellen und natürlich auch den Songs des Albums bedient. Lässt sich wunderbar durchhören und startet meinen Montag perfekt. Mein persönlicher Favorit der Band war und ist immer noch "Midnight Marauders".

Tribute: Phife Dawg – Dear Dilla
Vor 5 Tagen, am 07.02.2014, war James "J Dilla" Yanceys 40. Geburtstag. Phife Dawg hat ihm einen Tribute-Song mitsamt sehenswertem Video gewidmet. Jay Dee flip another beat for me. -> "Before J Dilla passed, he and I were playing phone tag, I didn’t even know he was that sick until it was too late,” Phife said. “We didn’t realize we were both going through a lot with our health and never got to sit and talk about it together.” I felt like this song is that conversation. “I’ve been wanting to record a dedication to J Dilla for the longest, it just seemed to finally be the right time to do it,” said Phife from his home in Oakland, CA. “It was very therapeutic for me to do this. There are a lot of people dealing with renal failure and I wanted to make this a conduit, a way for people to put their health issues out there.”"

A Tribe Called Quests "Midnight Marauders" wird zwanzig und darf bald in New York Alkohol trinken. Jim Sharp hat sich den HipHop-Klassiker vorgeknöpft und mit den selben Samples neu interpretiert. Eine Hommage an ein großartiges Album, einer der wichtigsten Rap-Kombos jemals. Ich finde seine Versionen nicht unbedingt besser, das wäre wohl auch kaum möglich, aber interessant anders eben. Mein Favoriten sind "We Can Get down" und "Keep It Rolling" das eine zusätzliche Strophe von Nas und Extra P spendiert bekommen hat. "Beats, Rhymes and Life", die Dokumentation über A Tribe Called Quest sollte in Kürze in Deutschland zu sehen sein, wenn ich mich nicht irre. Leider kann ich gerade keinen Termin dazu finden, lasse mir aber gern nachhelfen. Michale Rapaport, den man sonst eher als Schauspieler kennt, hat bei dem Streifen Regie geführt und erzählt in diesem kurzen Interview ein wenig aus dem Nähkästchen des kreativen Entstehungs-Prozesses.
