Vorvorgestern vor 20 Jahren erschien ein Meilenstein des HipHop. The Pharcyde veröffentlichten ihr zweites Album Labcabincalifornia. Die Platte wurde zu großen Teilen Jay Dee produziert und Spike Jonze drehte den epischen Clip zur Single Drop. Wann immer ich von angestaubtem Mitt-90er Sound spreche, gehört dieses Album nicht dazu.

This Saturday (14th November 2015) marked the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde’s seminal sophomore album ‚Labcabincalifornia‘. Produced in part by the late great Jay Dee together with various members of the group and guest producers including Diamond D, it’s a timeless long player that sounds as fresh today as the day it was released. In celebration of the album’s 20th birthday, we’ve teamed up with Wax Poetics to present an exclusive mixtape containing tracks from the album, alternate versions, remixes, acapellas and, of course, original sample material used in the album’s production.
