Die Idee ist nicht neu, ich habe sie allerdings selten so schön und aufwändig umgesetzt gesehen. Das „Embroidered Turntable Zoetrope“ ist die Abschlussarbeit des australischen Künstler Elliot Schultz im Studium Digital Art.

Er bestickt Slipmats, die Filzmatten zwischen Plattenspieler und Platte, mit Motiven, die durch die Drehung des Turntables animiert werden. Das sieht so unfassbar cool aus, ich könnte mir die Gifs stundenlang ansehen.

This project encourages viewers to watch and engage with animation physically.

Discs were created with animated sequences embroidered onto their surface. They have been designed to be played on standard turntables and their shape and size is inherited from 10″ vinyl records. The animation is activated when a strobe light illuminates the discs in sync with the embroidered frames of animation.
