Produktdesignerin und insgesamt kreativer Kopf Caroline Brahme aus Stockholm hat mit ihrem Projekt Grey to Green den wohl schönsten Entwurf zur Bepflanzung urbaner Betonwüsten abgeliefert.

Die Gehwegplatten haben eine Kantenlänge von 35cm, soweit ich weiß, sind in Deutschland leider eher 30cm üblich. Damit hat sich das Projekt dann auch weitestgehend erledigt. Die Idee finde ich dennoch großartig und im Prinzip lässt sich das natürlich auch nachbauen.

Right now, the world is facing the largest wave of urban growth in history. However, the cities depend on nature’s ecosystem to function properly. In the future we must find new ways to integrate green structure into the cities more efficiently. The aim is to build dense, green and sustainable.

My product is a series of paving stones that can host vegetation. They allow flexible customization and integration of greenery on the paved urban floor.

With this project I am questioning the amount of space allowed for greenery in the city. Pushing the borders of where it is acceptable or unacceptable, and aspiring to lead the way for a new way of thinking when planning the many impervious surfaces in the city.
